Exciting News!

We’re going to be parents!

Parents of a yellow lab puppy, that is. Hehe! John and I have been talking about it for awhile, and finally decided on a lab. We went and met with a breeder in a town about an hour away today. The puppies are only 21 days old, so we have to wait a few weeks until we can bring the puppy home. We’ll have him toward the end of March.

The breeders (husband & wife) are older Germans and spoke very little English, so our friend Stefan, who is German, and his fiancee Marcia were nice enough to come along with us to translate. The breeders seem like very nice people who really care about their dogs, so that’s really comforting for us.

The puppy is a boy and was born on January 27. His dad is a yellow lab and also has the title of “Champion.” The breeder told us that there are strict requirements about the number of competitions you have to win to earn this title. His mom was also a show dog. She is a chocolate lab. The litter had 2 yellow female puppies, 2 chocolate males, & 4 yellow males. Some of the yellow ones have black noses and some have brown, and we chose one with a brown nose.

Everyone loves puppy pictures, so here is one of our new puppy:

Ours is the one the second from the left next to the basket. He’s laying on his back.

I also took a video:

In other news, we woke up to “lots” of snow. I say “lots” because it’s not a lot by Minnesota standards (Catherine and Hannah), but it’s the most we have had here all winter. From 7-9AM, we got about 2.5 inches of snow, and it’s been snowing the rest of the day. Most of the snow we have gotten since this morning has just melted once it came down, but there’s still a decent amount on the ground.

Here are a couple snow photos:

After we got back from the breeders’ place, we went out to dinner in Schwetzingen with Stefan and Marcia to a tasty little Italian restaurant named Da Dona. I had Hawaiian pizza and it was delicious!

Again, YAY! We’re puppy parents! 🙂

  1. yay puppies. Really cute what’s the name?

  2. We are planning on waiting to name him. Since he was so little and we couldn’t even pick him up, we have no idea what his personality is like. We’d like to play with him for a bit before picking a name. We’ll either figure something out in 2 weeks when we go back to play with him or when we bring him home. I’ll keep everyone posted!

  3. Aww your puppy is soo cute! We have always had Yellow labs growing up and they are great dogs.

  4. @Sweet Pea – Thanks! We’ve heard great things about labs and can’t wait to bring ours home.

  5. Hi, I ran across your blog and my husband and i are new to heidelberg (military). I was just wondering where in schwetzingen you got your lab?

    • We got our puppy about an hour away in a small town. Do you all speak German? If not, you’ll have to be patient to find a breeder who will trust you and be willing to let you have one of their puppies. Good luck!
