The Panhandle

It’s been about 2 decades since I’ve been to the Texas panhandle. I don’t remember much other than my sister’s dorm room, the Luby’s we ate at and waking up with my head underneath my older brother’s bed (and subsequently being quite panicked).

I don’t know how much the town has changed, but it does surprise me. I’ve already seen so many restaurants that I want to go to – Rudy’s, On the Border, Olive Garden, Wendy’s (don’t laugh!), Sonic, etc. Yum!

We arrived late on Wednesday and spent yesterday with Grommie, John’s grandmother. For those who don’t know, we’re staying at her house. In the early morning as well as during her early afternoon nap time, we have made trips to a local coffee shop so I can get some work done. I don’t have enough leave to just take all this time off, so I’m trying to squeeze some work time in when I get the chance.

For lunch yesterday, we went to Souper Salad with Grommie. I had never been there, but I did enjoy my soup, salad and soft serve. Lots of s’s. We also spent some time at Barnes and Noble and Best Buy. I got a new paper journal as well as a hard case for my iPhone. Yesterday evening, Grommie’s sister Bobbie came over for dinner, and afterward, we played 4-player solitaire. I had never played before, but I’m hooked now!

We are also missing Béni a great deal. I will be really excited to get back and see him.

Alright, I planned to update photos, but I’ve been feeling really dizzy lately, and it’s hit me again just now. I’m not sure if my body is just having a really hard time adjusting to being over here or if I have some sort of vertigo. In any case, I need to go lie down.

I get to see yall in ONE WEEK!!

  2. Hope you get over your dizziness- that’s one of the worst feelings in the world.

    • Thanks, Sarah! I’m hoping so too. I had vertigo for a few weeks back in college, and I hope this isn’t the same thing. I hope it’s just extended effects from jet lag.

  4. Hey guys,
Give me a call when you get a chance so we can talk logistics about your trip up. It’s looking more and more like I will be in the hospital for most of your visit but am still super excited you’re coming. Hope you are having fun in SA town enjoying plenty of mexican food. We are super jealous! 🙂
    Love, Catherine
