And folks like me on the job from nine to five

Except it will be more like 7:45 to 4:45…

That’s right, after 14 months of searching for a job, I got a job offer! My tentative start date is Thursday, pending completion of all the HR paperwork. It’s not a government job, but is on post with a contractor. I don’t want to post the company’s name on here, but if you want to ask me privately, I’m more than happy to tell you the name of the company.

The position involves a little bit of everything. I believe the official title is Administrative Assistant, but I will be doing admin work, event planning, executive assistant stuff, some financial/accounting work, and so on.

With my student loans entering repayment in August, I’m extremely relieved to have this opportunity. I’m also thrilled to finally have a “real” job — aka the kind I have been looking for since graduating from the University of Texas. The only two things I’m really bummed about is giving up our freedom to travel as much (not like we were doing that often anyway) and the ability to take care of things at home full time for John (including making him lunch at home every day). However, I this is a great opportunity and I’m excited to get started!

Since this was such big news, I didn’t want to post both about my new job and our trip to the Netherlands in one day. I promise, the weekend trip post is coming tomorrow! 🙂

  1. Yay for having a new job! I know you must be so relieved after your long search. Paying back those student loans is painful, but it is SO fulfilling to see the numbers slowly go down. Hang in there, and congrats!

  2. Congratulations Sarah! A long-awaited answer to prayer…

    • Indeed! I was really starting to think that He wanted me at home instead of working, but I guess He just wanted me in this position instead of a government job (which is basically all I had been applying to prior to this).

  3. So happy for you and can’t wait to hear more about it!
