Caterpillar: Who are you?

I was just going to title this post “Who are you?” but then I thought of Alice in Wonderland and had to give credit to the caterpillar.

In my classes, the professor undoubtedly begins the class by having each student give their name, their academic background and tell why they are taking the course. Really? Why we’re taking the course? Isn’t that just an exercise in who can BS the best answer? With the exception of my international law class, which I was truly excited about, I took each class for my master’s because they were required to get my degree.

Maybe I’m an anomaly. I don’t really care too much about the International Relations degree. Getting my master’s was something to focus my time on while here and jobless. I don’t have any dreams of being a diplomat or anything.

This question also rears its head in job interviews. Recently, I was granted a job interview (yay), and the interviewer asked me why I wanted the job. Again, it’s an exercise in BS. If I gave the real answer – because I really want to make some money and this job was open so I applied – I doubt they would hire me.

There are jobs, however, where this would be a great question for me to answer. I would love to answer why I want to be an event manager, wedding coordinator or photo editor.

Yesterday, John posted about April Fools’ Day. Like him, I am not much of a fan of the day. In fact, on March 31st, we made a promise to one another no to fool each other. I think most April Fools’ are mean. (Exception: the ones that Google does are funny.)

On my way home from class (9:45 PM) after a long day, I pulled into the gate to post. The Ponds guards (contracted security at the gate that check our IDs and sometimes inspect us) scanned my ID, checked my cars registration, and right when I was about to be let through, they told me I couldn’t drive on post. Of course I got panicked. I was tired and just wanted to get home to John so we could finish watching The Biggest Loser and go to bed.

They told me that my front right headlight was shattered and they were surprised I hadn’t noticed it. They said that because it was not in tact, I could not come on post, to which my response was “seriously?!” They then laughed and told me April Fools.

Ugh.

I do not like April Fools’ Day. I just wanted to go home and go to bed. It’s been a long couple of weeks!

Today is also “Hi/Lo Thursday,” which is a blog carnival from the Riggs Family Blog. Check out their blog to read everyone else’s “Hi/Lo” posts and get your link on their site.

Our Highs:

  • John getting back from Graf
  • Getting through my history class
  • Taking Béni out to the Schwetzingen Hauptstraße, where everyone flipped over how süß (sweet) he is — Truly, one lady ran out of a gelato shop out to the street to ask to pet him. She picked him up and took him inside to show all her friends. It was pretty hilarious but overwhelming for Béni.
  • Getting a lot accomplished around the house
  • Getting Béni to sleep/stay in his crate at least 6 hours at a time during the night. I’m so relieved to not be getting up every 2.5 hours anymore. He’s getting better at it, but he still does NOT like getting in his crate.

Our Lows:

  • Being stressed out about everything I have to get done
  • Having three 4-page papers and two 10 page papers to write in the next 2 weeks (for one of the 10 page papers, I have nearly 10 books to go through)
  • Hearing that a high school friend’s younger brother unexpectedly passed away this week
  • Hearing more about Stellan’s health

That’s it for us this week. What were your highs and lows for the week?

  1. yes april fools day DOES suck! i got some big news via email yesterday and i totally had to call to confirm it! the whole day is lame because its all a big joke. how did april fools day even start?!geez!

  2. I also HATE April Fools. I made Stephen promise not to do anything to me. I think it’s mean.

Are you giving Beni a treat and praising him every single time he goes in his crate? He’ll get better. I think we really got lucky. Rookie loves her room. Weirdo!

    • Yeah… Sarah and I promised not to do anything to each other too.

As for Beni, yeah, we treat him and praise him every time he goes in his crate. We actually have to bribe him in there with treats. He just doesn’t want to go in. :-/

I hope it starts to get better. We always let him get in on his own (except at 4 in the morning after a potty walk).
