We’re down to one week before the big moving day. One. Week.
We have been preparing everything for the move for a couple weeks now, but it still feels like there is so much to do. John has removed everything from the walls and filled all the holes. We have packed away all our knick knacks. All our books are in a central location and organized by size for the movers.
This weekend we will give our rug a thorough vacuuming, which is something it receives a couple times per week anyway thanks to Mr. Béni “Sheds-A-Lot” Dog, and we will roll it up in the corner to await its moving box.
The real trick is when it comes to how to separate our things out that will ship later. Just last night it dawned on me that I need to hold back two dish towels so we can still do the dishes. How am I going to remember all those little things? Our plan is to sit down tonight and make a list of everything we need to keep. On the big day, we will put those things in our car to keep them separate. We’ll see how that goes.
Before the movers come, I need to be sure all the laundry is done, too, which seems kind of silly if you ask me. I swear I am going to end up re-washing everything once we get to Austin, because it will smell like boxes and will have sat in a crate on a ship for 2 months. Oh, wait, excuse me, that’s just the scent I want my clothes to have. I won’t have to do any laundry.
There have been a number of other changes going on with us lately, because, well, we’re smack dab in the middle of one of the biggest transition periods of our lives. We are in the midst of trying to figure out a solid living situation when we get home, and I’m trying to work out a good work situation. All of this is causing a lot of stress, so please excuse me if this blog seems a little quiet over the coming weeks. I will do my best to write out what I can when I can, but I have no idea when I will have a free second (like this one) to get a few scattered thoughts down.
I just had a thought about another blog entry I could write, but before I finished that last sentence, I’d already forgotten what the blog topic was. See…pregnancy brain + stress = the most scatter-brained Sarah you’ll ever see.
Our movers are coming next week too. Nightmare! The guy came by yesterday to assess the packing and what they needed… first thing he said when he stepped in the house was “Oh…. books… well you don’t have much furniture so I think you’ll still be under the weight limit.” Causing me to freak out slightly that I might have to leave behind some of my precious library.
We have customs coming by tomorrow to make sure we’re not going to try and sneak any soil into the U.S, cleverly hidden on the tires of Mikey’s bike.
Good luck with everything!
Thanks. Good luck to you guys too!
We had the customs guy come by last week alon with the pre-move inspection, so I know how you’re feeling. We haven’t had our housing pre-inspection though. If we end up with charges, I’m going to be bitter.
I think we’re going to get charged for our floor… which makes me mad because if it weren’t such a cheap floor there wouldn’t be any marks on it!
There’s also some warping in Mikey’s room because last Spring they hadn’t cleaned our gutters and we had a waterfall outside one window, the water came into every room down that side but only one neighbour called DPW about it, figuring not everyone needed to call. Well because we weren’t the ones who called, we don’t have paperwork to prove we didn’t dump water on the floor right by the window ourselves… *sigh*
