The first Thanksgiving John and I were together, we were newly engaged, and I was visiting him in Germany while he lived in the barracks. We made Thanksgiving dinner together in the barracks kitchen. No turkey. I don’t do turkey…yet.
The next Thanksgiving, 2008, we were married. We spent Thanksgiving with a couple living in the same military housing area as us. It was a decent Thanksgiving, but unfortunately, we are no longer friends with that couple.
Thanksgiving 2009 was spent with just the two of us. We just made the sides, because as I said before, I don’t do turkey…yet.
Thanksgiving 2010 was the best Thanksgiving we have had together. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner with 9 friends we have all just recently met thanks to John’s “new” job (it’s not new anymore since it has been 6 months). Derek and Jessica hosted and made (along with Derek’s parents who were visiting) the turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes and apple pie. Owen and Megan brought rolls, corn, green bean casserole and the best cheesecake with raspberry sauce that I have ever tasted. Ever. Dae, a friend of Jessica and Megan’s visiting from the States (the Army is a small community), and Phil, whose wife and son were in the States visiting family, also joined us and brought a good amount of wine and beer. (No worries, I had cranberry juice and ginger ale to drink. Yum!) We brought cranberries, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, strawberry Jell-O applesauce salad and pumpkin pie. The food was great, but really the company was what made the dinner. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. Oh, and we got to spend it with Derek & Jessica’s baby boy, James, which just made everything even better.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
