Social Béni

In the past 10 days since we got Béni, we have met/talked to more people around post than in the past 10 months I have been here. People drive by and smile or wave at Béni, they stop along their walks to pet him, and I’m amazed. These are probably the same people who would pass me when I was dogless and not even let me do my Texan thing of a smile, hello and nod. Everyone loves Béni.

Yesterday, we went for a walk in the late afternoon and he met two little girls and their mom who stopped and petted him for awhile. Then we met two more little girls out playing. Right before we got back to our apartment, two teenage boys flipped over how awesome he was and sat down and played with Béni for awhile. Béni LOVED them and didn’t want to come back home with me. I’m glad he’s getting to be more social! When we first brought him home, he was so scared of everything. He still can’t play with other dogs, though, because he hasn’t finished all his vaccinations. (He’ll be done with those mid-summer when he’s about 5 months old.)

Tonight I have my HR cultural diversity class, which looks interesting. Hopefully it will go by less painfully than last week’s class. After Sunday, I don’t have to attend any more class for my degree. I still have one class after this week, but I’m taking it online during the summer semester.

I remember when I graduated from UT and thought “yes! I will never have to sit through another lecture or do homework every again!” Ugh, I was wrong. This time, I’m right. No more semester-long lectures or homework. I’m NOT getting a PhD.

  1. “I’m NOT getting a PhD.” – hahaha….I am so there with you. I never thought I disliked school until I went back!
Having dogs was always how people met each other in Boston! 😀

    • Yeah, I didn’t dislike school until going back either. By the way, what’s your master’s in? I’m sure I’ve read it along the way, but I’ve forgotten.

  2. Rookie was very shy at first too. She hid in her crate all the time. I think she was scared at first. Then she got used to us and had tons of energy!! Enjoy the puppy phase!
