Going for a Walk

Friday’s high is 47 and the low is 31. Yikes! Now, before all you Texans say you’re jealous and you wish it was like that there, just remember — German winter is as monotonous as Texas summers. Plus, we don’t get to see the sun much during the fall and winter. It stays pretty gray with a constant slow drizzle. It’s the kind of drizzle where it’s a pain to leave your car windshield wipers on, so you have to turn them on and off every couple of minutes.

This morning John and I went and took care of more paperwork for getting rid of his BMW…now we just have one step left. What a process! I’m also preparing for a job interview tomorrow with a German company. The more we look at the job posting, though, the more it looks unappealing. First, we really need to have jobs in the same location since we’re down to one car and this job is not near the kaserne that John works on. Second, we aren’t really sure what the pay is like (it’s confusing the way it’s listed) and it would involve most of my weekends being spent working. I feel like if we’re given the opportunity to live over here, I want to have the weekends free to travel, and this would make that very hard. Anyway, we’ll see how the interview goes tomorrow. I’m also looking at a job with the bank on post.

Also, I wanted to share these photos with you guys to give you a better idea of where we live. At the beginning of September, John and I took a walk just off post in search of “kurbis” (pumpkins). There was a sign for them, and we thought it was for a pumpkin patch. It ended up being a horse stable with some pumpkins sitting out front. Although we didn’t get to see a pumpkin patch, it was a nice walk. These pictures show how country-like the area is. We are about 5 minutes from the city. Enjoy!

  1. pretty sunflowers! did y’all get any??

  2. Since I don’t have a car in London, I consider that amount of rain annoying because it feels like a little too light to justify an umbrella; but not using an umbrella and getting hit with little drops of rain is annoying. But then you’re walking around with an umbrella up and the rain is so light you can’t even hear it so you feel stupid, put the umbrella down, and then you’re getting hit with light rain again! Ahh! Oh the perils of “light rain” in Europe…

  3. Haha yes, that’s my thought process as well!

And no, Cat, we didn’t buy any sunflowers, but John brought home flowers for me as a surprise a couple nights ago. :o)

  4. the sun flowers look amazzzing!
